The Diageo Special Releases 2016 edition of unpeated Caol Ila, yet again shot through with a hint of smoke. It's a mixture of American- and European-oak-matured whisky, adding some richness to Caol Ila's nutty unpeated spirit. The whisky was distilled in 1998 and matured in ex-bourbon first fill American Oak casks. It is a beautiful pale gold; has considerable nose-prickle, and a maritime top note.

Description
It was Hector Henderson who originally brought the Caol Ila whiskies to the World in 1846. From there to now has not been an easy ride however. The distillery has endured numerous changes in ownership (it is currently owned by Diageo) and closures for all sorts of reasons. Since 1974, when demand for whisky recovered, it has been on a much surer footing though.
