Well- what a vintage. 2020, clearly affected by Covid, is almost miraculously being heralded as one of the best vintages to come out of New Zealand in the last 50 years. A tiny amount of the wine is aged in Oak which just adds a touch (and I do mean a touch) of vanilla and creaminess to the expected refreshing citrus and fruit notes. On first taste I have to agree this tastes like it could be an absolute cracker.

First released in 1986, the striking aromatic, fine structure and crisp acidity of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc immediately captured the imagination of wine lovers the world over. I am old enough to remember when it first landed on our shores and the clamour it caused. You simply could not open up a wine magazine for some time afterwards without this wine being mentioned. Twenty eight years later, Cloudy Bay is still producing superb wines and regarded as the benchmark producer of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
